Facts About Alaska

It's wintertime in Alaska, and the pristine beauty is available for all who want to view it. There'll be Christmas festivities in which to join in, sled dog races, photography contests, and mid-winter carnivals.

Here are a few things to try to experience while in AK, as its called.

Blanket toss - if you're athletic, give a blanket toss a try. The Eskimos used to do this, tossing a sharp-eyed hunter 20 feet in the air so that he could see if there were any seal or walrus about. 30 or so people will hold the blanket, and give any willing customer a ride they will never forget.

Aurora Borealis - this spectacular display of shimmering lights is most often seen from August to April, and the best cities in which to view them are Barrow and Fairbanks.

Eskimo Ice Cream - a delicacy you must sample while you're in Alaska. It is traditionally made of whipped berries, seal oil and snow. However different variations of it can be found throughout the state.

Another delicacy to try is sourdough, used to make bread and hot cakes.
