What you need to know before you take a cruise

Before you leave on your cruise, you'll be presented with a passenger contract (mailed to you after you make your reservations) which you'll need to read and sign. You'll also receive a letter detailing all cruise information.

Make sure your passport is up to date. These days, you need it wherever you go. You'll also have to fill out an online immigration form. - yes, even if you're just going up to Canada for the day.

Some cruise lines still allow smoking in state rooms, but none of them will allow smoking in pubic areas.

A cruise ship can be a cashless society. Simply bill everything to your stateroom, and it will be added to your credit card at the end of the journey.

Once you arrive at your destinaton (if for example you sail from Seattle to British Columbia, no one may depart the ship until all luggage is off-loaded. This is no hardship, though, you simply relax in a publc lounge until it's time to leave.

Time to go for a cruise

Book now for some cruise savings in September.

For example, Princess Cruises offers a one-night Coastal Cruise aboard the Golden Princess, departing September 19, 2009. The liner departs Seattle at 4 pm, and arrives in Vancouver, British Columbia at about 7 the next morning. Depending on the stateroom category you choose, prices range from $47.46 (for an inside cabin) to $658.56 (this top price is for the "Owner's Suite With Private Balcony".

Or how about a one night dinner-and-dance cruise, on the Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Pearl. Otherwise called the "Cruise to Nowhere," the liner embarks and returns to Seattle. Cabin prices start as inexpensively as $29 for an inside cabin to $99 for a suite.

There's tons more from Cruise Direct, so check it out today!

JetBlue and its great fares

Yesterday I shared some special one-way airfares from JetBlue, today I thought I'd give a bit of history of that discount airline. (JetBlue is a non-union airline - that saves them money right there! )

The company is headquartered in the Forest Hills neighborhood of the New York City borough of Queens. Its home airport is John F. Kennedy International Airport, which is also located in Queens.

JetBlue debuted in 2001, with a location at Long Beach Airport in Long Beach, California. By 2004 they had branched out to Boston's Logan International Airport.

Today, JetBlue has focus city operations at Fort Lauderdale, Washington-Dulles and Orlando International Airport. The airline mainly serves destinations in the United States, but also offers flights to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Mexico.

They have a total of 59 destinations in 12 countries.

JetBlue flies the Airbus A320 and the Embraer-E-190.

Hot Stuff From Hotwire

Summer is a time for families to go travelling together, to instill fond members that will last for a lifetime.

But in this economic climate, deals need to be found!

So, if you'd like to go to North Ft. Lauderdale , IN MID-AUGUST, you can find hotels for $51 a night. That's a savings of 35% off normal room rates.

However, to get these great rates you and your family will have to stay in the hotel for 4 nights. Well, it should be possible to find something to do in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for that number of days!

Like Priceline, you don't learn the name of the hotel until you actually book it, but each of these sites have partners that are name-brand hotels.

So think sun, think fun, think Ft. Lauderdale in August.

(Okay, what's to see in Ft. Lauderdale? Well, the city is known as the Venice of America because of its extensive canal system. Visit the world's largest drive-in movie theater, with 13 screens! Historical sites abound.)

Hot Deals from Hotwire for July

Hotwire offers lots of great deals, but there's a catch. You don't actually see the name of the hotel you're checking into (or its location!) until after you make the non-refundable booking! However, the hotels they use are "brand-name" hotels, so there's some security there. ALL BOOKINGS ARE FINAL.

Nevertheless, you're able to get some great deals this way.

Right now I'm looking at hotel deals in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Special 5 day rate, checking in July 12 for 5 nights

3-star hotel, near the East Strip
Check in on July 12, and stay for 5 nights, and you can get a rate of $29 per room per night. It's a 3-star hotel...could be the Holiday Inn, Radisson, Double Tree Inn or something similar. It'll be located near the East Strip of Las Vegas. Of course the $29 room rate doesn't include the $10 resort fee that the hotel also charges every day (that's a Las Vegas thing, apparently) and doesn't include taxes. Nevertheless, a base rate of $39 a day is nothing to sneeze at. (The hotel collects the fee from you, you won't see it on the Hotwire booking form.)

3 star hotel, downtown Las Vegas
The base rate at this hotel (again, could be Holiday Inn, Radisson, Double Tree or something similar) is only $20 per night! This hotel also has a resort fee, but it's only $5 per night - collected from you separately each night, rather than on your Hotwire booking form.

5 star condo, Central strip
If you think you're going to be lucky at the casinos, why not get a 5-star condo on the Central strip for only $86 per night. Of course, they charge a resort fee - $20 per night.

Here's some more info about condos:
Most condos offer separate sleeping and living areas and a full kitchen or kitchenette.
For groups, condos can offer better value compared with multiple hotel rooms.
Features typically include a separate bedroom and living room, full kitchen or kitchenette, and laundry facilities.
Housekeeping service is not usually provided during your stay, unless the condo lists a "Daily Housekeeping" amenity. Housekeeping service may be available upon request and/or provided for a fee payable directly to the property.

And note that you need to be at least 21 to reserve any of these rooms.
